Sue Langford's popular piece LOVE captures Manchester's beauty and grit. Describing what inspired Sue, she said ‘I saw this word scrawled on the wall on a dull day, so took a quick snap on my handbag camera, then went back in the sunshine later that week to get a proper
version. This is the fire escape of a hotel on Whitworth Street, and it’s where people congregate to smoke; the word love has been written using the dirty end of a cigarette butt. It sums Manchester up to me beautifully: there’s a truly heartfelt and gorgeous message on the face of it, and that’s what matters more than the rather gritty back story.’
Sue donated LOVE as part of the 30 Artists Give it Up auction in November 2020 to raise money for Forever Manchester.
