L.S. Lowry A3 Poster Artwork by James Chapman
Laurence Stephen Lowry was born in Stretford in 1887, but spent most of his life in Pendlebury. Famous for painting scenes of life in the industrial districts of North West England, he developed a distinctive style of painting and is best known for his urban landscapes peopled with human figures often referred to as "matchstick men".
Artist James Chapman explains: "L.S. Lowry spent so much of his life in Manchester and Salford, painting what he saw, and his beautiful visions of the city he lived in are his legacy. Shown here in modern-day Piccadilly Gardens, the same location he had painted 60 years ago."
